Port Blair, Apr 24: The Diglipur region of North Andaman have been witnessing massive power cut since last three days. According to reports the power cuts are not only several hour long but also unscheduled giving almost no time to people of Diglipur to plan their house hold works or even recharge inverters.
Power crisis is so bad in Diglipur region that in last nearly three days 25 invertors were sold in Diglipur region.
Meanwhile, some residents alleged that there is a pseudo VIP colony in Digipur behind APWD Guest House, where power cuts are comparatively less than other parts of Diglipur.
While electricity department has many reasons to explain this power crisis many conspiracy theories are also doing round in Diglipur.
Mr. Hamza the Executive Engineer of Diglipur region was unavailable over phone to comment on this issue.
However when contacted the Superintending Engineer of Electricity Department, Mr. Uttam Kumar Paul revealed the real problem and told Andaman Sheekha there are four DG sets at Diglipur and one DG set is already under some kind of maintenance and hence the situation was managed with three DG sets and some power from Kalpong Dam Power Plant.
He said that the present power crisis surfaced when the third DG set developed some technical problems and hence there were only two DG set to provide power to Diglipur and some power from Kalpong.
“Engineers are already there at Diglipur and our staffs are also with them. I have reviewed the situation today, I was told that by tonight the third DG set will be repaired and if it is done, from tomorrow morning the problem will be resolved,” Mr. Paul told Andaman Sheekha.
He added that the four DG set which was already under maintenance will also be pressed into service by end of this week, which will again resolve all the power problems.
Mr. Pual also reportedly directed the Engineers at work at Diglipur to work beyond official hours of duty and make sure that the DG set is repaired on time. He also directed the Engineers to assist repair of One MW DG set of Rangat after repair of Diglipur DG set so that atleast half of the power from one MW DG set of Rangat can be sent to Diglipur.
Source said that on Monday the SE, Electricity Department returned to Port Blair from Diglipur by road, after not getting helicopter ticket at Diglipur. While return he inspected repair work of DG set at Rangat and also he visited Baratang Electricity unit.
