Port Blair, Feb 14: Dog menace is back in city to haunt people of Port Blair. Increasing population of stray dogs is causing a lot of problems for general public on daily basis but the PBMC seems to be total clueless about this major problem.
Large number of stray dogs can be seen sitting forming gangs at a few major public places, especially in all major junctions during night and evening hours.
Tuition going students, who take a walk back home, pedestrians, people going for morning walks and tourists are the class of people majorly attacked by Dogs.
Dogs growl at people, chase vehicles and even bite at times. The two wheelers are at a high risk as during the chase drivers can lose balance in panic and can get fatally injured.
When Andaman Sheekha, Daily contacted the Secretary of PBMC Mr. Suneel Achipakan, IAS and highlighted this problem being faced by public due to stray dogs, the Secretary took a serious note of this issue and assured that soon all stray dogs will be caught and serious steps will be taken to resolve this problem.
Mr. Suneel also informed Andaman Sheekha that dog van is on patrol during the day but when this reporter informed that the problems faced by people is usually during the morning, evening and night hours, the Secretary directed concerned staffs to send dog catching vans in PBMC areas during these hours.
Hope the PBMC takes immediate steps in this regards before someone driving two wheelers at night meets with an accident because of gang of dogs chasing bikes or before some child is attacked by dog.
