
Port Blair, Feb 13: The II nd Dr T C Khatri Memorial lecture held at JNRM on 12th February 2019 commemorating the birth anniversary, of Late Dr. T C Khatri Associate Professor and former Head of Department of Zoology, JNRM, popularly known as THE BUTTERFLY MAN of A & N Islands, and great naturalist Robert Charles Darwin. The topic of this year’s lecture was “Butterflies of the Bay Islands: Diversity and Conservation”. The key speaker was DR. C. Sivaperuman, Scientist ‘D’ and Officer Incharge, Zoological Survey India, Port Blair. He talked on Rainbow wings Biodiversity, Climate, Geography, Flora and Fauna of A & N Islands. In his talk he mentions the threat and conservation methods to recover the faunal diversity of most beautiful insects. The program began with the inauguration of traditional lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. The welcome address was delivered by Dr Vivek Kumar Sahu, convener of the memorial lecture and Assistant Professor, dept. of Zoology. In his address he explains the ecological, esthetic and socio-cultural aspects of Butterflies. The program was chaired by HOD Plant Science, Dr. F.H. Hashmi who while remembering his long association with DR Khatri threw light on different aspects of his personality; as a dedicated teacher, a passionate researcher and above all good human being. The event was compeered by Mohsinah and Kusum Mondal of Nature Club of the department of Zoology. The program was attended by Faculty of JNRM and students of the departments of Botany and Zoology. The winner of various events was awarded with Prize and Certificate. At the end of program the honorable speaker and president of the occasion were presented with memento by J. Gautham, HOD, Zoology, as a token of appreciation. Program concluded with a vote of thanks by Susmita Pandi.
