Port Blair, Feb 01: The Non Gazetted Govt. Officers Association, Andaman & Nicobar Islands expresses its strong disappointment on the budget presented by the Union Finance Minister Mr. Piyush Goyal today. The Govt. employees and workers anticipated a slew of measures for their relief in the interim budget for 2019-20, the last before the term of the present NDA Government led by Mr. Narendra Modi. But their hopes were turned into desperation after the budget.
The announcement to continue the present slabs and rates for income tax is a betrayal to lakhs of salaried class people.
The decision of tax rebate on income upto 5 lakhs will benefit only a miniscule minority among Govt. employees. The only benefit the majority of employees could expect is from the decision to increase the standard deduction from Rs. 40,000 to 50,000. The employees will be benefited a meager amount of Rs 2000 to 3000 from this decision.
This Association also notes that budget has nothing to improve the sagging economy through public investment, employment generation and improving the purchasing power of the people. Rather the announcement to continue disinvestment and privatization of public sector units reflects the real intention of the Government.
Even the pension of Rs.3000/- announced by the Finance Minister for un-organized workers is another exercise without there being any scheme.
