Port Blair, July 31: The Passing out Parade of the 67th batch of A&N Police recruits was held at Police Parade Ground, Police Line here today. The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM took the salute at an impressive and colourful passing-out parade. 379 recruit constables including 121 Lady Recruits of A&N Police who have successfully completed the training took the oath of dedicated service in the Police force during the ceremony. The batch also included 30 constables from Nicobari tribe and one Constable from Great Andamanase tribe.
Speaking on the occasion, the Lt Governor congratulated the inducted constables and emphasized the importance of rendering services to the public and maintaining law and order in the Islands. He advised them to acquire capability such as leadership, courage, self-commitment, quick decision so as to serve the public in the best possible manner. He stated that Police Personnel should always present a good turnout, maintain punctuality and obey the orders of the senior officers. Their behaviour, especially towards children, women and the aged persons while discharging their Police duties should be sympathetic and courteous and their moral character immaculate.
The Lt Governor stressed that the Police is an important department and has been bestowed the responsibility of maintaining law and order and appreciated the A&N Police for carrying out their duties in recent years in an exemplary manner.
Referring to the Police modernization process, he stated that A&N Police is now acquiring modern equipment and weaponry to face the emerging security challenges and also emphasized the importance of Forensic Science Laboratory, Finger Print Bureau, Dog Squad, Bomb Disposal Squad, Police Marine Force and Cyber Crime unit in strengthening the Police force in the Islands.
The Lt Governor also presented cash award and trophies to some of the outstanding recruits for their best performances in different fields during the training.
Demonstration by ‘Monu’ of the Police Dog Squad, skills display like stripping & assembling of different kind of weapons, self-defence techniques and 280 recruits in dresses matching the National tri-colour duplicated the map of India with the ‘Ashoka Chakra’ marked the colourful extravaganza.
Senior officers of the Administration and Police Organization were present on the occasion.
