
Port Blair, Dec.28: The Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi is arriving here tomorrow evening (29th December), on a two day visit to the A&N Islands. The visit of the Prime Minister is part of the 75th anniversary celebration of hoisting of Tricolor by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on Indian soil on 30th December 1943 at Port Blair. The Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Communications, Mr. Manoj Sinha is accompanying the Prime Minister in the celebration.
In the morning of 30th December, the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Car Nicobar. His itinerary at Car Nicobar includes laying wreath at the Tsunami Memorial, lighting candle at the Wall of Lost Souls and visit of the Museum at Tsunami Memorial. The itinerary further includes interaction with Members of Tribal Council and addressing the public at BJR Stadium. People from different parts of Nicobar Group of Islands are reaching Car Nicobar for the public function.
In the afternoon at Port Blair, the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit the National Memorial Cellular Jail and lay wreath at the Martyrs’ Column. The Prime Minister is scheduled to dedicate the 150 ft. high Flag Mast at South Point, Port Blair, commemorating the historic event of Hoisting of First Tricolor on Indian Soil by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose at Port Blair on 30th December 1943. During the occasion, Police and Naval Bands will play the National Anthem from a Pantoon which is being anchored in the sea nearby.
After paying floral tributes at the statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose at Marina Park, the Prime Minister is scheduled to attend a public function at Netaji Stadium where he is expected to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for series of projects for the A&N Islands. The Prime Minister is expected to release a commemorative coin with denomination of Rs. 75/- on the themes of Cellular Jail along with the first tricolor hoisting by Netaji. The Commemorative Coin epitomizes the quintessential spirit of that golden moment in the history when Netaji declared the Islands as the first Indian Territory to be freed from the British Raj.
The A&N Administration is organizing a cultural programme at the Netaji Stadium from 2.30 pm onwards on 30th December. The Cultural programme will continue after the address of the Prime Minister. People have been invited to attend this public function at Netaji Stadium and requested to reach Netaji Stadium by 2.00 pm. A Traffic advisory has been issued by the Police to regulate vehicular movement and also to guide the pedestrians destined to attend the function. The entry for the general public is from the Marina Park.
In order to enable people from different parts of the Islands reaching Port Blair, the Directorates of Shipping Services and Transport have made elaborate arrangements. They are plying a number of ships and buses from all parts of the Islands to ferry the public free of cost. Security forces have made elaborate security arrangements for smooth conduct of this Mega Function. The city is also wearing a festive look to greet its Prime Minister in the Islands.
