Port Blair, July 29: In a shocking incident four inmates of ‘Observation and Special Home’ (Juvenile Home) of Andaman and Nicobar Administration, escaped after killing one care-taker and one watchman.
According to reports all four inmates, two Indian and two Myanmarese Nationals, attacked the watchman Mr. Titas and care taker, Mr. B S Pillai, one by one with sharp objects and escaped after locking the front gate as well as all six rooms of the Juvenile Home.
“One of the inmates, a Myanmarese national, has already been arrested. He is 12- 13 year old boy and is in tremendous state of shock. Apparently both of the staffs were murdered at night with some sharp objects and they died because of excessive bleeding,” S B S Tyagi, the Superintendent of Police of South Andaman told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ today.
Sources inside the Juvenile Home however said that the cook did not show up yesterday night and that is why the inmates were asked to cook food, which might have helped the inmates to get murder weapons, so easily.
According to police before the great escape the inmates had burnt some crucial documents regarding their identity.
The body of Mr. Titas was found under the beds of the inmates with severe head injuries while body of Mr. Pillai was found near the staircase, infront of his office.
“Some pages, which contained the name, address and details of these inmates are missing and it is believed that those documents were brunt by them after these murders,” SP South Andaman added.
The Juvenile Home is run by Social Welfare Department of A & N Administration and it is believed that lack of preparedness and professionalism had resulted in this incident.
“I don’t know much. I was in Yoga Session. I am director of Social Welfare Department but I am not the in-charge of the Juvenile Home,” was the reply of Dr. V. Krishnamurthy, the Director of Social Welfare Department of A & N Administration, when journalists asked for comment.
Meanwhile, Andaman and Nicobar Police has already launched a massive man-hunt to trace out all three escaped Juveniles.
