Port Blair, July 29: Lt. Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM, Lt. Governor, A & N Islands has ordered an enquiry into the double murder case at juvenile home, Nayagaon in Port Blair.
The enquiry will be conducted by Shri Rupesh Kumar Thakur, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman District to fix responsibility for the lapses, if any, that led to this unfortunate and shameful incident and to suggest measures to be undertaken by the Social Welfare Department to avoid recurrence of any untoward incident.
This follows from the discovery of two dead bodies- one of a care taker and one of a watchman posted at juvenile home of Social Welfare Department of Nayagaon. The juvenile home had only four inmates – two from Myanmar and two local boys and three of whom are absconding While the SDM is conducting the inquest, the police is investigating the matter.
Lt. Governor has also sanctioned ex-gratia relief of two lakh rupees each for the next of kin of the deceased government servants. Lt. Governor has also ordered for providing a job for one of the members of the families of the deceased.
