Port Blair, July 29: ‘My Brother Nikhil’ is an award winning film, that has been screened all around the world, and was brought to Port Blair by NAACH Academy of Performing Arts on the 28th of July at the Dr. B.R Ambedkar Auditorium. The movie has been an important tool in spreading awareness about AIDS, and the people behind NAACH felt that the impact of the movie would be much greater if they could get inputs from the director as well. To this end Onir graciously accepted NAACH’s invitation to come to Port Blair, and help highlight the issues his movie has focused on.
The screening of ‘My Brother Nikhil’ was a break from tradition in Port Blair. Though it is not a Bollywood masala movie, the screening was very well attended and received. It dealt with issues that are both sensitive and controversial, but was received with great understanding and interest by a varied and open minded audience. Mr. Lucas Robert, the Director of SAC was the chief guest on the occasion and director Onir, who was felicitated by Hariny Das, was the guest of honour.
This successful event was a team effort by NAACH Academy of Performing Arts, A & N AIDS Control Society and the Port Blair Municipal Corporation, and was given invaluable help by Hotel TSG Emerald View and El Dorado Beach Resort, Havelock.
