Diglipur, Dec 05: The fuel dispensers of ANIIDCO petrol pump at Diglipur are malfunctioning since last three days. For last two days no fuel was issued to the public while since this morning fuel was given by manual pumping through drums and jerricans.
Because of such problem one could see huge beeline outside the petrol pump this morning while the fuel station officials provided maximum of 5 litres of fuel to an individual.
They informed that it might take three more days to repair the dispenser units and tomorrow onwards the fuel will be distributed to customers directly through tankers.
This petrol bunk was inaugurated in May 2009 since then there is only one bunk that too which has old dispensing machines while in Port Blair the fuel dispensers were updated and now digital pumps are being used to dispense fuel.
Sources said that the parts have to be brought from Kolkata, which might take much more time. Mainland and local tourists are badly affected because to this, many vehicles are stranded at Diglipur or they have to buy petrol at the rate of Rs 90 /litre. According to sources, four months back also this petrol pump had malfunctioned.
