Port Blair, Nov 27: The Andaman and Nicobar Police has plans to further strengthen Marine Police Force to prevent any incidents like the recent reported killing of American Tourists at North Sentinel Island, after his misadventure to enter the Island and efforts interact with the tribes.
Talking to a new news channel recently, the Director General of Police, A & N Islands claimed that the checking a patrolling mechanism is already robust in the waters of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
“You see as per our investigation and also the diary written by Mr. John Allen Chau, their plan of moving toward North Sentinel Island was camouflaged as fishing activity. He (John Allen Chau) also mentioned his diary that God sheltered them from Coast Guard and Police so first of all this itself is an evidence of the very fact that checking a patrolling mechanism is robust in the waters of Andaman and Nicobar Islands,” he said.
He added that Andaman and Nicobar Islands have a huge coast line so apart from the coast guard and the navy the police marine force also exists.
“We further plan to strengthen Police Marine Force, there is a good scope for improvement in making it robust and more and more effective on ground. We are already on that,” he said.
The DGP added that A& N Police is also into very vibration community policing initiative, talking to fishermen and taking inputs.
“It was already there but now there will be an emphasis and check as far as anyone trying to move inside tribal area or North Sentinel Island or Jarawa Reserve area. That extra effort we will take.More than above the exemplary and very tough legal action what we have taken against these seven people (accused) it will certainly be a very very good demonstration and people worldwide now will come to know that venturing into prohibited areas, tribal areas, even the buffer zone is going to bring trouble for you will be dealt stringently,” he said.
