Port Blair, Nov 25: Mr.BishnuPada Ray,MP met with Mr.AmitKhare, Secretary, Ministry of Information & broadcasting, Govt of India on 19.11.18 and presented a letter with the request to make necessary immediate arrangement to discard the proposal for closure of Analogue TV Transmitters (ATTs), until alternate Digital TV Transmitters (DTTs) is not made available for the UT of A&N Islands.
Meeting with Mr. AmitKhare, Secretary, Ministry ofInformation & broadcasting, Govt of India on 19.11.2018“Mr. Ray, MP has further appraised that consequent upon the instruction of the Ministry; the Doordarshan has delinked their transmission and closed 4 ATTs. The remaining 14 ATTs of this UT Islands are likely to be closed soon. Resulted in which there is huge resentment amongst the Islanders settled in far flung Islands due to non receipt of DD Signals for their entertainment/infotainment and current affairs/news bulletins/awareness messages, besides weather reports, emergency warnings of Cyclone and other disasters like earth quake/tsunami etc.
The Islanders of rural areas and in far flung Islands of A&N Islands are fully dependent upon the Doordarshan and due to non-getting of Doordarshan connectivity in all such isolated areas may affect the security and the disaster would be in large scale.
Considering the above aspects, Mr.BishnuPada Ray,MP requested the Secretary, Ministry of Information & broadcasting to intervene in the matter and to direct the Doordarshan to stop the action of closure of ATTs and also to restore the Transmission of Analogue TV Transmitters (ATTs) in A&N Islands until alternate Digital TV Transmitters (DTTs) is made available”.
