Port Blair, Oct 07: Although all religious and linguistic groups have full rights to conduct rallies and organize dharna to press their demands but many believes that such rallies by JAF and BJAC, instead of doing good, is widening the gaps between Island communities, which could be dangerous for Andaman’s future.
Although basically both organizations are demanding job reservation for Islanders, better facilities for own community and also action against illegal entry of foreigners but due to blame game of some irresponsible leaders of both the sides, now the matter has become JAF Vs BJAC, which should have been United Islanders Vs Outsiders.
While this is also a fact that most of the leaders of JAC and BJAC must be lauded for bringing awareness among Islanders against foreign intruders and 100 percent job reservation for Islanders but somewhere due to some irresponsible comments in social media by some people, there is hatred among people against other communities.
Leaders of both JAF and BJAC must identify such few leaders who are spreading hatred in social media.
Due to failure of Intelligence units to report against such irresponsible social media posts and updates of a few leaders of both the committees, many of whom are government servants, wrong information is spreading in Andaman society.
Hate postings in social media against Local Community and Bangali Community must stop and those who are responsible leaders in JAF and BJAC, must take serious note of this, otherwise their movement for a cause will take a different direction.
Hopefully someday leaders of both the groups will sit together and work for uniting of Islanders than dividing them. Such rallies, just before 2019 Lok Sabha elections somewhere indicate that these rallies have other dimensions too.
Public must understand that more the local society is divided, more benefit some political leaders will reap in coming elections. Such divide will change the equation of coming elections completely.
‘Andaman Islands are for Islanders’ and no Islanders should allow ‘some people’ to play politics in this matter.
