Port Blair, Oct 07: Despite Heavy rain the Bangla Joint Action Committee (BJAC) today organized a massive rally in which about 1500 people participated.
Nearly 16 buses and several other vehicles were also there to carry the crowd. The rally which started from Junglighat Ground, culminated at Tiranga Park where a public meeting was organized, in which leaders of BJAC voiced their concerns.
The leaders mainly stressed on not harassing Bengali people in Andaman in the name of Bangladeshi and also the leaders demanded proper identification of foreign intruders, if any.
Concerns were also expressed in the meeting regarding the matter that recently slogans like ‘Bangali Hatao’ were allegedly raised in Andaman during a JAF’s rally. The BJAC also opposed Shekhar Singh Commission and demanded review of Vivek Rae Committee’s recommendations.
Other major demands were 100 percent job reservation for Islanders, stop illegal entry of foreign nationals in A & N Islands, giving proper importance to Bangali language, giving promised facilities to settlers and their off springs and stop closing of Bangali Medium Schools in Bangali areas.
