Havelock, Oct 03: In another case of serious security lapse as many as nine Myanmarese poachers managed to enter Havelock Island. Luckily the police team managed to apprehend these poachers, who should have otherwise been caught by Indian Navy or Coast Guard.
According to reports, this morning a suspected Myanmar dinghy was located near Elephanta Island, Light house, Havelock. On information a thorough search was conducted by police and nine Myanmarese were apprehended from Elephanta beach region by afternoon.
On 11 July this year 17 Mayanmarese poachers had entered inside Little Andaman, who attacked 13 fishermen and escaped. On 27 June four Myanmarese poachers were apprehended from Diglipur area. The increasing numbers of poachers, entering inside Andaman Sea is now raising serious questions over role of Coast Guard in Andaman and its surveillance capabilities.
It seems that entering and escaping from Andaman and Nicobar Islands is an easy task for poachers and they have mastered the skills of tricking Indian Coast Guard. This is surprisingly to note that Myanmarese poachers, coming from Northern region are able to reach upto South Andaman area viz Havelock and Hut Bay Island, that too without being caught. It won’t be surprisingly if tomorrow some poachers reach Port Blair for Sight Seeing.
