Port Blair, July 15: A “Save Environment Run” was organized by the Coast Guard Region (A&N), Port Blair on 14 Jul 2012 with an aim to spread awareness amongst a Cost Guard fraternity and general public regarding the importance of preservation and protection of our precious environment and also to build stamina and spirit of camaraderie amongst all.
The officers, men and families including children of all cost guard units at Port Blair enthusiastically participated in the run, which was flagged off at 0600 hrs from Tatarakshak Vihar, Haddo by Inspector General VSR Murhty, President Tatrakshak Medal, Tatarakshak Medal, Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N). The run was held in three categories viz under 40 years of ago, over 40 years of age, ladies and children. The run culminated at the Coast Guard Indoor Sports Complex covering a distance of about 6 Kms, where the winners and runners-up of the various categories were given suitable prizes at an impressive prize distribution ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Inspector General VSR Murthy, PTM TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N) appreciated the participants of all, particularly the families and Children, who gave their wholehearted support to this theme oriented event. He also stressed upon the need to put in best efforts by each and every one to maintain clean & green environment, in order to provide a healthy place to our future generation to cherish. As far as marine environment is concerned we are indeed fortunate in not having any oil spill incidence due to grounding/accident of vessels or other drilling activities in the A&N waters. The Coast Guard Region (A&N) with its pollution response team at Port Blair is full geared up to meet any eventually in our waters.
