Port Blair, July 22: On 21 Jul 18, at about 2340 hrs, Indian Coast Guard Ship C- 146 evacuated an injured crew from MV ‘Ornella’. The 49-year crew, an Ukranian national suffered severe injuries due to a fall from the staircase of the vessel whilst it was on passage from Chittagong, Bangladesh to Penang, Malaysia. The operation was coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, Port Blair located at CG RHQ (A&N), which received the message from the master of the vessel and advised her to head towards Port Blair for medical evacuation. Immediately, medical advice was made available to the master to administer basic first aid and assess the condition of the injured crew. Accordingly, C-146 was sailed from Port Blair with medical team to effect rendezvous with the vessel off Port Blair. The medical team undertook basic medical assessment and brought the injured crew to Coast Guard jetty, Port Blair at about 0030 on 22 Jul 18. The injured was thereafter handed over to the Agent of the vessel for further medical management. It is learnt that the injured has been admitted to GB Pant Hospital and his condition is stable.
