Port Blair, June 27: The GB Pant Hospital of Port Blair city is the lone referral hospital of entire Andaman Nicobar Islands. As this Hospital has all kind of specialists and modern equipments it witnesses maximum crowd everyday but often facilities provided by the hospital leave patients deeply upset.
For example the GB Pant Hospital presently has 3 water coolers but sadly none of the coolers are working.
Patients complaint that they have to run from pillar to post to collect safe drinking water in G B Pant Hospital. Worst hit are patients of dialysis, who need to take lot of water but everytime attainders of these patients have to walk a long distance to collect drinking water.
One questions that when these coolers are not working then why the Health Department has not repaired it yet. If repairing is not possible then the department should atleast remove these coolers and install new ones for the public.
However not everyone is sad, the canteen owners are witnessing heavy sale of package drinking water because of these faulty coolers. But again not everyone can afford to buy packaged drinking water all the time.
When contacted the Director of Health Services, Dr. S P Burma told Andaman Sheekha that he has already received complaints and the department has written letters to the APWD to repair these coolers. Hopefully both the department will understand that coolers in Hospital of great importance and hence this work must be carried out soon.
