Port Blair, June 25: Andaman Sheekha, Daily had published a news regarding Power Crisis in Little Andaman Island on 25 June edition, mentioning that people of the Island are getting power for hardly 7 hours a day because of severe shortage of fuel.
To follow up the issue, Andaman Sheekha today contacted the Superintending Engineer of Electric Department, Mr U.K.Paul to know about the step being taken by the Department to tackle this crisis.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr Paul said that the Department has earlier sent an oil tanker but due to unfavorable weather conditions, the oil tanker had to remain in anchor near Kala Pahad for three days.
Mr. Paul said that now the said oil tanker is at Havelock Island and tomorrow the vessel is expected to reach Port Blair after which the vessel will be sent for Little Andaman. He said that presently the Little Andaman unit has fuel only for 6 to 7 days and hence the present power cuts are being carried out.
According to Mr. Paul as soon as oil tanker reaches Little Andaman and fuel is transferred the power crisis will end in the Island.
