Port Blair, June 08: The Port Blair Municipal Council, is nowadays busy in spreading awareness among the islanders to keep the city clean etc. but the fact is that the civic body has forgotten that ‘charity begins at home’.
The Gandhi Market owned by the Port Blair Municipal Council, wherein there are several shops, is having a toilet in such a state that, it looks like, have not being cleaned since years. The toilet is all about dirt and stench of urinals, greetings all the vendors and their employee, on a daily basis.
Clogged urinals, dirty toilet pots and the bad smell have added to the woes of the users of the toilet. Several complaints by the Shop Owners has already been registered in the past to the authorities of Port Blair Municipal Council but when no action was taken, the vendors now lost the hope and nowadays is preferring to relieve in the open.
“We are paying Rs 1000 rent in a month as well as we also pay Rs 80 for cleanliness but even after paying this sum of money the output is zero, no one even comes to clean the toilet,” said a Vendor, in case of anonymity.
First thing first; important to keep the location clean that you own before going out to create awareness among others for the same. Hope the PBMC authorities will understand and start maintaining a good cleanliness at the toilet used by dozens of the people at Gandhi Market on daily basis.
