Port Blair, May 28: A joint team of UTCPCR, A & N Police and Child Line(an NGO) today rescued a girl from Nepal, who claims to be minor, from Nayagaon area. The girl, who appears to be 15 to 16 years old and lacks any age proof in Andaman, was brought to Port Blair by a man, about 30 years old from Nepal.
According to the girl, the man had physically abused her repeatedly in last one and half year and also used to beat her, whenever she used to refuse for sexual favours.
The man used to claim that she is his wife in his area, to avoid any suspicion. Anyhow the information reached to Andaman unit of UT Commission for Protection of Child Rights (UTCPCR) member Mrs. Rubina Siddiqui, who took up the matter with all concerned agencies and planned the rescue.
Today the joint team of UTCPCR, A & N Police and Child Line raided the house of the suspect and rescued the girl and recorded the victim’s statement.
When contacted, Mrs. Rubina Siddiqui, Member, UTCPCR told Andaman Sheekha the girl has been shifted to a safe shelter and soon when will be shifted to a permanent shelter while the accused has been arrested under POCSO Act. As per details the accused will be produced before the court tomorrow.
