Port Blair, May 07: The District Magistrate South Andaman has notified that due to re-habitation any up-gradation of NH-223, the road leading from chouldari(30.300 Km) to Portmout (33.00KM) and Orgabraj (30.500KM) to Ferrargunj (43.900KM) would be closed with effect from 10.05.2018 for two months.
“Hence, all the traffic / vehicular movement through the above stretch of road would be closed with effect from 10.05.2018 and the traffic / vehicular movement would be diverted from the road leading via Gopal Nagar to chouldari and Orgabraj to Ferrargunj via Mithakhari, Saithankhari to Ferrargunj,” a notification issued by South Andaman’s Additional District Magistrate said here.
Meanwhile, talking to Andaman Sheekha the District Magistrate, Mr. Udit Prakash Rai today said that this is not closure of ATR but diversion of only Convoy vehicles, for which up-gradation work of NH-223 is suffering heavily.
However, the District Magistrate mentioned that small vehicles, especially local vehicles for villages can use the normal route. He said that before notification a detailed meeting with all the pradhan of the region was held and only after that this decision is taken.
