Port Blair, March 25: Residents of remote villages like Sundergarh in Baratang, are facing a very tough time as due to various administrative reasons, developmental works, has come to a total halt.
For Sundergarh Panchayat, as per allegation of Pradhan, the Rural Development and Panchayat Department has not released any fund since last one year following which the Pradhan is even struggling to pay salaries to the Daily Rated Mazdoors, working in the Panchayat.
In a letter addressed to the Secretary, RD, Mr Biju Gurudasan the Pradhan of Sundergarh Panchayat Baratang stated that due to non release of funds, he is unable to carry out the sanitation, cleanliness works in his village. “We don’t even have a Panchayat Secretary in our Panchayat and the post is vacant in the panchayat since last one year,” Mr Biju said.
“After trying all possible and peaceful efforts I have failed to divert the focus of the administration towards my village, I have written several letters to the administration regarding the problems we are facing but nothing was done by the administration and now I have no option left than sitting on an indefinite hunger strike with the villagers,” said Mr Biju.
Mr Biju has also highlighted the dilapidated condition of the NH to Kharanallah road in his letter and demanded the Secretary, RD to issue orders to concerned agency to construct the same road at the earliest for the convenience of villagers.
He also requested the Secretary, RD to take necessary action and direct the APWD to construct the RCC Bridge at Kharanallah soon as the concerned department is showing no interest in the aforesaid construction work.
