Port Blair, Mar 23: A major fire was reported onboard passenger vessel, MV Chowra, inside Marine dry-dock area, early this morning.
According to the reports at around 3:20 a.m. today the major fire was seen on board the ship. Initially the Fire Brigade unit of Marine Fire Station swung into action but as the fire was going beyond control, Fire Tenders from three other Fire Stations Aberdeen, Chatham and Garacharma were called for assistance.
Altogether four fire tenders, two water bowsers and two water pumps (for pumping sea water) were press into action to douse the fire.
Other than this, water was also pumped and sprayed from three nearby vessels MV Wandoor, MV Long Island and MV Chuglam.
After great efforts, it took nearly one and half hour for the Fire Service Personnel to bring the fire under control.
As per reports short circuit in one wall-fan inside cabin number 415 of MV Chowra caused of Fire later the fire spread to cabin number 114 and 117.
No one was injured in this accident however as there were thick smoke, fire fighters had to use breathing apparatus to control this major fire.
