Port Blair, July 05: A P.S. Aberdeen police team has seized 13.5 kg of banned polythene carry bags during surprise raids in Aberdeen bazaar on Wednesday (04 July). Under the supervision of Chinmoy Biswal, ASP (SA), a police team of SHO Stalin, ASI Rasheed, PCs Manpal, Ashish, Imran and HG Chiranjeevi conducted surprise checks in commercial establishments to enforce the ban on commercial use or sale of plastic carry bags during which 10.5 kg polythene bags was recovered from M/s Rajan Enterprises and 03 kg from M/s Shopping Singapore Shop at Aberdeen Bazar and seized u/s 19 of Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
The owners of commercial establishments & shops and vendors are hereby cautioned not to keep, sale or give plastic carry bags as this has been banned in the Islands, failing which they shall be liable for legal action. General public is requested not to use plastic bags, rather carry their own cloth, jute or paper bags while going out on shopping.
