Port Blair, July 05: As a part of Andaman & Nicobar Command’s initiative to promote technical awareness and practical orientation among the budding technocrats of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Andaman and Nicobar Command and Director (Employment & Training) of A&N Administration, coordinated visit of 150 students of Govt ITI, Dollygunj to repair facilities of Naval Ship Repair Yard, Port Blair in the batches of 30-40 students from 02 Jul – 05 Jul 12.
During the visit, the students were exposed to complete spectrum of ship repair trades by conducting them through various repair facilities such as Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Plants Repairs, Internal Combustion Engines Repair & Overhaul, Pumps & Compressors Overhaul, Fabrication and Outfitting Shops, Store Houses etc. NSRY’s coordinating team consisting of Cdr AR Kamble, Senior Manager (Technical), Mr. BT Ghankute, Mr R Ajith Kumar and Mr KSR Prasad exposed the students to high-end technology areas like CNC machining, telecommunication, gyro, navigational aids, radars and PCB repairs facilities.
In addition to imparting practical aspects of ship repairs, they were provided with adequate opportunity to interact with experienced civilian work force, supervisors, service personnel and officers of the Yard. This gave them an opportunity to clarify various doubts on technical and career related aspects lingering in their budding minds.
The students were highly inspired and motivated by the hands on exposure they received during this visit. They were thrilled about the visit to Naval Ship Repair Yard and particularly so when they visited the unique Floating Dock Navy-1and its state of the art machinery and control systems. The students awestruck by the massive Floating Dock showed keen interest in understanding nuances of docking and undocking operations onboard the Floating Dock Navy-1.
On the concluding day of the visit 05 Jul 12, the trainees had an opportunity to interact with Commodore Superintendent of the Yard. During his interaction with the budding technicians, the CSY brought out the need to correlate what is learnt in the ITI’s workshop with practical application. He told the young trainees that “every small aspect they learn in the institute has application in the big industries and infrastructure activities that contribute to nation building. It is therefore very important to learn the trade well and apply it intelligently.
Mr. Madhu Sudan Baidya, Director of Employment & Training who coordinated the visit from the A&N Administration thanked Andaman & Nicobar Command and NSRY (PB) on the initiative and said that such institute-industry interaction will go a long way in building technical human resources pool for the nation.
