Port Blair, Feb 15: Poor show by the Electricity Department is continuing as every month because of some or the other problems, South Andaman region is facing severe power crisis.
Yesterday due to major technical snag developed in the 33 KV Switchgear Panels of 10 MW Hiring Power Plant at Phoenix Bay Power House complex, the power output from this power plant has become “ZERO”. As the unprofessional electricity department never bothers to keep any DG set in standby, entire South Andaman had to face multiple power cuts since yesterday night which continued till tonight.
Later a press note issued by the department said that due to the crisis there would be power cuts but the department has again failed to provide any schedule for the power cut.
Worst suffers are the students are going to face board exam after few weeks. This is sad to see that the Chief Secretary and Lt. Governor have maintained complete silence over the unprofessional working style of Electricity Department. Local youths are now planning to start a mass signature campaign against electricity department demanding immediate action against top officers of Electricity Department who have failed to provide proper power supply in Islands.
