Port Blair, Jan 23: C.I.T.U. Andaman and Nicobar State Committee has deeply mourned the sudden demise of Mr. Madan Mohan Das, Secretary, Diglipur Zonal Committee and General Secretary, North Andaman Public Works Union, at 1 a.m. on Monday at GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair. He was 61 years. He left behind his wife, one son and two daughters. He retired from APWD on 31st March, 2017 and was a native of Diglipur. CITU State Committees notes that Mr. Madan Mohan Das was a sincere and dedicated trade union leader and organized the workers of APWD and fought for their rights. He was in the forefront of all the movements conducted by the CITU and government employees’ organizations in North Andaman. His death was a great blow on the trade union movement in these islands.
His body was taken to Diglipur by road from Port Blair. The body was kept at the office of the CITU Zonal Committee at Diglipur where leaders of various trade unions and NGOs’ Association laid wreaths on the body. Thereafter, the body was taken in a procession to his residence where his family members paid respectful homage to him. From there, the body was taken in a procession by the employees and workers to Sitanagar for cremation. CITU dips its red flag in memory of Comrade Mr. Madan Mohan Das.
