Port Blair, Jan 16: During a recent incident, where a woman fell down into sea from a ferry at Chatham Jetty area, tremendous effort and courage were shown by a man namely Mr. Laxmi Narayan, Social Worker and Politician and a resident of Hope Town, to save the woman.
As per reports, Ms. Famida Azeez accidently fell into the sea while boarding Harbor Ferry vessel MV Juhi.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha exclusively, the victim, Ms. Famida Azeez, D/o Abdul Azeez, resident of Hope Town claimed that just because of Mr. Laxmi Narayan, she is alive today.
She said that while boarding the Harbor Vessel MV Juhi due to dizziness and due to pitiable condition of the steps for boarding the vessel, she lost her balance and fell into the sea.
“When I fell into the sea, no one from the Harbor Vessel or any other on lookers showed courage to jump and save me, instead it took a lot of time for the vessel staffs to get a lifebuoy for me. But Mr. Laxmi Narayan showed enough courage and overstretched himself to keep holding me until I got the grip on the rope and ring buoy. He stretched himself to an extent that others had to catch hold of his legs to avoid him from falling into the water,” Ms. Famida Azeez said.
As in recent past many such incidents have been witnessed, Ms. Famida Azeez the victim demanded the administration to depute a life guard in every ferry, so that in case of emergency immediate help can be delivered. She also urged the administration to provide good stepladders for general public to board any ferry vessels.
Ms. Famida, also requested the Andaman Nicobar Administration to honour Mr. Laxmi Narayan for showing extra ordinary courage at the time of need and saving one unknown person’s life.
