Port Blair, Dec 29: The 30th Annual Athletic Meet of the Government Model Secondary School, Kamorta was held on 22nd December, 2017 at the school premises. Shri Ismail Sarder, Executive Engineer, APWD, Nancowrie, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, declared the Meet open. While addressing the students, teachers and guests present on the occasion, Shri Ismail Sardar appreciated the hard work, discipline and team work of the teachers and students in the school. Smt Aysha Majeed, Chairperson, Tribal Council, Nancowrie was the Guest of Honour at the opening ceremony. In her address, Smt Aysha Majeed exhorted the students to continue to participate in the sports and cultural activities in the school. Earlier, Smt Anitha Nath.G, Headmaster Incharge of the School welcomed the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, Village Captains, SMC Members, guests, parents, teachers and students who were present on the occasion. Mass PT by boys, Dumble Drills by girls, Lazium display by girls, dance by girls, etc were highly appreciated by the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, guests, Village Captains and SMC members, parents and others present on the occasion. The Torch Fire was carried by Master Rex Nixon and Miss Sania Mirza of the school.
In the closing ceremony, Dr Ramya, Chief Medical Officer, CHC, Nancowrie was the Chief Guest who declared the Athletic Meet close. Shri M. Nehru, Asst. Education Officer, Nancowry was the Guest of Honour at the Closing Ceremony. The Chief Guest Dr Ramya praised the sports and cultural activities in the school and was full of appreciation of the talents of the students studying in such a far-flung island. Dering House won the Champion Trophy and Runner-up trophy was lifted by Trinket House. Kumar Richard of class VIII got the individual championship for boys and Kumari Indira of class VIII got the individual championship for girls. A large number of parents and villagers witnessed the athletic events from morning to the end. Smt N.C. Rani, GTT, proposed vote of thanks.
