Baratang, Dec 26: The Ex-Zilla Parishad Member of Baratang region, Mr. G Khurma Rao, has expressed serious concern over the action taken by the Baratang Forest division for clearing of Plantations in encroached land.
In a letter addressed to the Divisional Forest Officer, Baratang Forest Division Mr. G. Khurma Rao, Ex Zilla Parishad Member informed that on 23.12.2017 and 26.12.2017 at Adazig, plantation of Areca nut and Banana trees were cleaned by forest department.
The operation was carried out by the Range Officer, Adajig Range and upon questioning by the villagers, the Range Officer, Adajig Range explained that the cultivated land comes under forest land and the Divisional Forest Officer, Baratang Division has directed to clear the forest land.
Today on 26.12.2016 while eviction of trees, the villagers, PRI members, Pradhan Mr. Biju Gurudsan protested asked the officials of the department to stop the action immediately.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha Mr. Khurma Rao informed that he also met with the Chief Secretary in the regard. The Chief Secretary has reportedly assured him possible action.
