Port Blair, June 29: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, Pradesh Congress Committee along with the PRI members and party functionaries from Ferrargunj Tehsil and Little Andaman called upon Commissioner cum Secretary (education) on 29.06.2012 and requested him to restore the Science stream in Class XI and XII at Senior Secondary School Port Mout and R. K. Pur in Little Andaman as the withdrawal of the same will cause hardship to the students presently pursuing education in these schools and may also effect their studies.
Mr. Sharma also invited the attention of the Commissioner cum Secretary (education) regarding imposition cut off marks, of 48 in the AIEEE score for distribution of 105 seats of Bachelor in Engineering reserved by the MHRD for A&N Islands in the colleges at main land and expressed apprehension of falling the reserved seats vacant, as students were made, known of such requirement by the A&N Administration as late as during the fag end of the academic session 2011-2012, for which the students were not prepared.
He therefore requested the Commissioner cum Secretary (education) to take up the matter with the Government of India seeking relaxation for Andaman & Nicobar Islands and in the mean time allow the students to apply for the reserved engineering seats in the mainland colleges irrespective of the cut off marks as was done till previous year.
The Commissioner cum Secretary (education) reportedly gave patient hearing to both the issues and assured-of taking appropriate steps keeping in mind the benefit for students of the Islands.
