Port Blair, Nov 26: Various complaints has been received by the District Administration regarding illegal extraction of earth in South Andaman District. Strict penal action has been taken against all such violators and fine of about Rs. 33 lakhs has been imposed against the accused person to be realized through land revenue. Also police has been directed to lodge FIR under Section 378 for taking dishonestly movable property out of land without valid permit. It has been found that the Chowkidar of the concerned area had failed in reporting such extent therefore they he has been placed under suspension with immediate effect. Also concerned RI & Patwari has been directed to ensure zero tolerance against illegal earth cutting or else will be personally liable for action.
Further taking the drive to the illegal crushing and earth cutting, a team of revenue field staff consisting of Patwaries and Revenue Inspectors headed by Assistant Commissioner (SA) and Tehsildar Port Blair inspected illegal stone crushing units in order to curb the menace of illegal activities. During the inspection illegal quarry products stacked in five crushing units two at Sippighat and three at Prothrapur village were seized and shall be forfeited within 2 days as per law.
“Caution is being issued to all the violators that If anyone is found to indulge in such illegal activities, strict action will be taken under the provisions of LR & LRR 1966 & IPC. The general public is hereby requested to pass on information of any illegal cutting, dumping and transporting of earth to the Dy. Commissioner (SA) on the phone No. 9434280018. The District Administration is committed to ensure zero illegal quarry operations and if any such illegitimate activities are noticed, the same should be informed on the above given number directly to DC (SA),” a release from DC South Andaman said here today.
