Port Blair, Nov 17: A street fight in front of Junglighat School has finally ended up in a murder today.
As per reports, some youths of Dignabad and Phoengy Kaung area today slapped a guy from Garacharma area, who was coming from Junglighat cremation ground area, following some matter over a fight which took place two days back at Garacharma.
Sources said that this matter came to the knowledge of Shiva, 24 years, the elder brother of the Garacharma guy. Later Shiva along with 8-10 people in his group started beating, other guys whom they thought are from Dignabad and Phoengy Kaung group.
Shiva and his friend also reportedly beaten up two of the guys at around 01:30 PM, following which one of the guy also suffered seizure, who was then taken to the Hospital by the PCR after a complaint.
After the fight was over, in the afternoon at around 02:30-3:30 PM the elder brother Shiva, 24 years, was spotted by some youths of Dignabad and Phoengy Kaung group, at Chakkargaon near All India Road colony.
Sources said that two youths from the group attacked Shiva with an iron rod following which Shiva sustained serious head injuries. Later Shiva succumbed to his injuries at the ICU of G B Pant hospital.
The death of Shiva trigged massive protest at Port Blair. More than 500 people in support of Shiva protested in front of the Aberdeen Police Station till late evening and also blocked road at Clock Tower area for several hours, demanding arrest of all the culprits, who were involved in the murder of Shiva. Later several youths were reportedly picked up by police and there were also unconfirmed reports of two arrests.
Shiva, 24 years was a Manager at AG Bar, Garacharma and also a businessman with very good influence in society, because of his nature.
Sources said that terribly slow action of Police Department and lack of professionalism in dealing with mob by Police Officers, had resulted in this protest today. The Police officers who claim to be the guard of society and democracy behaved so irresponsibly that they did not even reply to media questions and calls in this regard.
