Port Blair, Nov 05: The District Commissioner South Andaman, Mr. Udit Prakash Rai, IAS has received an order from the Government to declare South Andaman as ‘Open Defecation Free Region’ by the end of December, this year. According to reports specific direction has been issued by the Prime Minister of India, himself.
Recently Talking to Andaman Sheekha, the DC, South Andaman, Mr. Udit Prakash Rai, IAS informed about this order to Andaman Sheekha and urged the general public residing in the South Andaman District to immediately construct toilet in their home at any cost by December end.
He said that those were not having toilet in their home has already received the money in this regard to construct toilet. He added that thousands, who are yet to be paid for the construction of toilet in their home will receive the money within a week.
The DC also strictly ordered the people those who have received money to construct toilet and also those are going to receive the money within this week and to the entire residents of South Andaman region to construct toilet soon by December end otherwise strict action will be taken against them.
He also informed the general public of the South Andaman Region that if anybody found without toilet in their home then a strict action will be taken against them. He also mentioned that there is a provision too, to put the violators behind bars.
“It’s a great initiative by the Government of India and for better health also its very necessary, I request all the South Andaman Residents to co-operate with the District Administration and make this campaign a success,” DC added.
