Port Blair, Nov 02: As many as six passengers suffered minor and moderate injuries when a Bus of State Transport Services of A & N Administration, went off the road and fell into deep terrain today afternoon.
Luckily there was no causality but this accident left one passenger moderately injured and five others, including the driver with minor injuries.
All injured were immediately rushed to nearby Primary Health Centre of Baratang Island. The moderately injured passenger, a lady, suffered 30 stitches on one hand.
The accident took place on Andaman Trunk Road, when the bus was crossing Jarawa Tribal Reserve in convoy and was about to reach the Middle Strait Jarawa Outpost, from where Middle Andaman District begins and South Andaman District ends.
The Police Unit of Baratang Police Station shifted all the injured to PHC Baratang and all other passengers were shifted to another bus for further journey. The STS bus was going towards Mayabunder from Port Blair in 12.00 Noon Convoy.
As per reports although the bus driver has claimed that the accident occurred due to steering lock but some passengers have reported that over-speed was the reason behind the accident.
The Police Station of Baratang has however registered an FIR in this regard against the driver. The driver was arrested and was later released on bail from Police Station.
As per details a team of Motor vehicle Experts of Transport Department will be visiting the spot tomorrow and examine the bus to know the real reason behind the accident.
According to passengers the bus stopped after hitting a tree or the accident could have been more disastrous.
