Port Blair, Oct 09: The Jan Kranti Party has demanded15% reservation for the people born in Andaman but considered only under 10 year category.
In a letter addressed to the Home minister of India, the JKP President, Mr. K.Venkat Ram Babu informed that after Independence, the demographic pattern of Andaman & Nicobar Islands has undergone drastic changes and the present population in the islands generally comprises of people who are born in the Islands and are categorized under 10 Year category.
Even though, nearly half century has passed, this category along with their off springs are still considered under 10 Year Category (which means a person who has been living continuously in the Islands for last 10 years) and are not given any benefits as compared to the Pre-1942 (Descendants of people who are living in the Islands prior to 1942) while both the categories are almost on the same standard of development as on date, JKP President said.
He also informed due to this peculiar condition the majority of population of the islands approximately above 50 percent who are born in the Islands are living a miserable life and are deprived of getting any facilities such as higher education, governmental jobs etc.
Later demanding he said that the Island born, who comprise of approx 50% plus of the total Island population should also be given 15% reservations like others.
