Port Blair, Oct 08: Andaman & Nicobar Command celebrated its 17th Raising Day on 08 Oct 2017. The only joint-services operational command of the Indian Armed Forces, commemorated its raising, by conducting several events over three days that included Barakhana with troops, Run for Fun, cultural programmes and media interaction. The Commander-in-Chief Andaman and Nicobar Command, Vice Admiral Bimal Verma, AVSM, reviewed the parade at INS UTKROSH and awarded Unit Citations for outstanding performance in the last one year. In his address, the Commander-in-Chief commended all personnel on their professionalism and alacrity shown in pursuance of the goals of the command. CINCAN informed that the several important projects of strategic significance are underway and the induction of operational assets like LCUs, Radars and raising of the new TA Bn would further enhance the operational capabilities of the Andaman and Nicobar Command. He commended all ranks for flawless conduct of bilateral exercises with the littoral states thereby resulting in reduction in poaching activities, in the last one year. The Commander-in-Chief made a special mention of the conduct of Human Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) and aid to civil authority by all components with a special mention to the role played by Coast Guard in saving elevan precious human lives. He further highlighted activities conducted in the last one year such as participation in community outreach programmes, conduct of multi-specialty medical camps in remote areas and Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan as part of the commitment of Andaman & Nicobar Command to serve the Islanders. In the end CINCAN mentioned about the achievement of DWWA in successful implementation of Segregated Waste Management System, and congratulated them for receiving the Swachhta Hi Sewa Swacch Bharat Rashtriya Puraskar-2017.
