Port Blair, October 08: The Ograbraj Police Unit recently arrested a 25 year old man under POCSO Act, as he had married a minor girl, a student of a Government school in city.
As per reports, the girl is presently around 17 years old and the accused married the girl a year back i.e 03/06/2016. Sources told Andaman Sheekha that the accused married the girl with the consent of her parents.
As per reports, the matter came into light when four girls had a tough fight outside the school. Sources said that during the fight one of the girl suffered minor injuries on her hand following which the matter was immediately reported to the Ograbraj Police Unit.
All the girls being minor, the Ograbraj Police Unit immediately took the support of the Child line and after good efforts from the Child line Unit they got the clue that one of the minor girls is married. The matter was immediately informed to the Ograbraj Police Unit and immediate actions were taken by the unit to arrest the accused who married the minor girl.
Yesterday itself the Police Unit arrested the accused and produced him to the court, where he has been further sent to the judicial custody.
The Child line has later handed over the case to the South Andaman District Child Protection Unit for further follow up and counseling of the minors. Alert citizens are requested to inform anything suspicious against Child to the Child line by just dialing 1098, a toll free number.
