Port Blair, June 25: South Andaman region of Andaman and Nicobar Islands is facing another major power outage from today. According to Electricity Department of Andaman and Nicobar Administration due to forced outage of one more 5 MW DG set of Suryachakra Power Corporation Ltd., the availability of power has been restricted in South Andaman region.
“Hence the Electricity Department will exercise approximately 90 minutes rotational load shedding from 5.15 PM to 11.15 PM in Port Blair and South Andaman area till rectification of defects with effect from 25.6.2012,” an official release of Electricity Department said here today.
However, talking to ‘Andaman Sheekha’, sources in SPCL told that the defect will be rectified soon. “There is a problem with a lead in one of the DG Sets. An expert is reaching Port Blair from Hyderabad tomorrow and within two days we will rectify the fault,” Biji George, the Assistant General Manger of SPCL told reporters today at Port Blair.
In March 2012, South Andaman region of A & N Islands suffered two hour long power cut for nearly a month, which resulted in protests and agitations all over these Islands.
For South Andaman region, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration purchases 20 MW power from Independent Power Producer, Suryachakra Power Corporation Ltd.
