Port Blair, Sesp 15: ICAR-KrishiVigyan Kendra (CIARI), Nimbudera organized three days training programme from 12th to 14th September 2017 on “Entrepreneurship development in fisheries and aquaculture” for unemployed rural youth at Urmilapur Gram Panchayat. The training was inaugurated by Shri, BiswajitMondal, Pradhan, Urmilapur, in his inaugural speech Pradhanappreciated KVK in organizing training on relevant topic which will guide them for opting better employment opportunities for higher income and better livelihood. Dr. Shailesh Kumar, SMS (Fisheries) briefed about the content of three days training and urged the youth to start their own business as scope and opportunities exist for development new enterprises in the region. Dr. B. L. Kasinathwhile welcoming the guest and participants highlighted the need of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Agriculturefor doubling the farmer’s income.Dr. Nagesh Ram, Sr. Scientist and Head, KVK, Port Blair discussedabout Inland and marine fisheries resources in A&N Islands and employment prospect for youth and women.
Experts of KVK, Nimbudera and CIARI, Port Blair had explained theory, practical demonstrations and film show on different aspects like Scope of entrepreneurship in Fisheries with reference to N&M Andaman, Women Entrepreneurship in India, Entrepreneurship development in aquaculture, Entrepreneurship development in fisheries, fish export & value addition, integrated farming, organic farming etc. Dr. ShardulVikarmLal talked about management measures to deal with disease problems in live-stocks. DrA. Velmuruganand Dr. I. Jaisankar discussed about need of organic farming in the islands and avenues of entrepreneurship through production and supply of inputs for organic farming. Participants have been demonstrated about production of bio fertilizers and bio pesticides during the training programme. Bio-fertilizer and bio-pesticides were also distributed to the farmers during the concluding session. In the concluding remarks Pradhan, Urmilapur thanked KVK for training the farmers on scientific farming practices for higher income generation and requested the participants to adopt scientific technologies in their field for higher productivity. Participants expressed their satisfaction about the training programme. The training was co-ordinated by Dr. Shailesh Kumar under the guidance and supervision of Dr. B. L. Kasinath and Dr. A. Kundu, Director, CIARI, Port Blair. A total of 39 farmers were benefitted in the training programme.
