It gives me immense pleasure to congratulate Indian Coast Guard for extending the flagship programme of honourable Prime Minister, Swachch Bharat, towards the pristine coasts of Andaman and Nicobar islands. From a humble beginning by an NGO to clean the shore lines in 1986, it has grown to global proportions and become International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) under United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The Indian Coast Guard is coordinating this event in South Asia Region under South Asian Cooperative Environment programme (SACEP) and conducting the Coastal Cleanup at 7 different locations on 16 Sep 2017 extending from Diglipur to Campbell Bay.
The Swachh Sagar Abhiyan being undertaken by CG , the beaches being interface between the seas & the land are being cleaned under ICC and participation in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by all residents are proof enough of Islands’ initiative and commitment towards an overall clean environment.
I extend my warm greetings to all participants who are contributing towards cleaner environment and I also hope that the residents would continue their efforts towards achieving the national goal.
