Mannarghat, Sep 01: In its efforts to empower women through skill upgradation on coir handicrafts, the Coir Board in association with the Yuvasakthi (an NGO) has inducted a two month skill upgradation training programme on 1st September 2017 in the community hall of Mannarghat Gram Panchayat. In a simple function held to mark the induction of the training, Mr.O.Basheer, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat formally inducted the training in the presence of Mr. Joseph, In-charge, Coir Board Sub-Office, Port Blair. 20 women artisans representing various self help groups were part of the training who will undergo various modules of training such as crafting coir rope and value added products. Earlier, Mr.Senpagaraja, Co-founder, Yuvasakthi welcomed guests, officers and the participants. According to him, 300 women artisans have been trained in various aspects of coir handicrafts so far, while another 500 women artisan are projected for creating a cluster of artisans. During his speech, Mr. Joseph, In-Charge, Coir Board Sub-Office in Port Blair stood in length about the scope of the proposed training and also appraised the gathering and participants of various subsidized financial assistance given by Coir board for setting up coir based industries. The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Mrs.Kamala Devi, Programme coordinator.
