Port Blair, Aug 31: In honour of the birth anniversary of India’s hockey wizard, Major Dhyan Chand the Nehru Yuva Kendra, Rangat in collaboration with Karen Youth Club, Webi celebrated National Sports Day on 29th August,2017 at the ground of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Mayabunder in which 60 youths participated from Mayabunder area. On the occasion Fr. Johnson, Paresh Priest of the church was the chief guest and he garlanded to the portrait of Major Dhyan Chand. In his speech the chief guest said sports and games is a spirit which enhances relationship between us and also urged youth to take part in each and every programme for betterment of their lives. Earlier Shri Johnson moses, a teacher of St. Francis Xaviour highlighted the importance of the day. A friendly volleyball match between Karen Youth Club, Webi V/s St. Catholic Church Youth was also conducted to mark the day. Five sets of the match were organised in which final set was won by the Karen Youth Club,Webi by 15-13. Prizes were also distributed among the players by the chief guest. At end of the match Shri Saw Shisho, Sports Secretary of Karen Youth Club, Webi proposed vote of thanks.
