Port Blair, Aug 30: Hundreds of youths today organized a major protest rally at Port Blair, the capital town of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, demanding cancellation of self marking scheme in local recruitments and to reserve all jobs of Andaman for local youths.
Although the protest rally was totally apolitical but the local youths of Andaman had urged for the support of all NGOs and Political Parties in today’s protest.
Major organizations like Local Born Association, Humane Touch have already extended their full support towards this cause.
The three main demands of youths are removal of Self Marking System from the 27 posts recently announced by the Secretariat; Demanding the administration to implement Domicile Policy in these Islands and to fill up all the vacant posts that are lying vacant since many years in the Andaman & Nicobar Administration.
The Protest Rally today started from Tiranga Park, Aberdeen Bazaar at around 02:00 pm. Later a delegation of Local Youths called on the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and submitted a memorandum.
Delegation that met the Lt. Governor later alleged that they were not given assurance in this matter by the Lt. Governor and hence fuming youths later blocked the Goal Ghar Junction till late evening.
At Goal Ghar Junction agitated youths blocked road amidst heavy police arrangements.
The agitation ended at around 8.00 pm following some positive assurances from the Chief Secretary of A & N Administration.
