Port Blair, Aug 29: A community interaction programme was organized by Indian Coast Guard at Chidiyatapu on 28 Aug 17 with an aim to create awareness on safety practices whilst out at sea and to include local fishing populace as eyes and ears with the coastal security agencies. The event was conducted in coordination with fisheries department and village panchayat. The Gram Panchayat representatives along with several local fishermen were present during the interaction.Port Blair, Aug 29: A community interaction programme was organized by Indian Coast Guard at Chidiyatapu on 28 Aug 17 with an aim to create awareness on safety practices whilst out at sea and to include local fishing populace as eyes and ears with the coastal security agencies. The event was conducted in coordination with fisheries department and village panchayat. The Gram Panchayat representatives along with several local fishermen were present during the interaction. During the event the fishermen were briefed about various safety precautions to be adhered whilst operating at sea, including use of safety equipment and gears. The fishermen were advised to carry all lifesaving equipment, boat registration papers including individual biometric ID cards. A lecture was also conducted on basic first aid techniques required to be provided in event of drowning, snake bite and burn injuries. They were informed about important phone numbers of Coast Guard helpline 1554 and Police helpline 1093. A communiqué received from PRO Coast Guard. “Vayam Raksham – We Protect”.
