Port Blair, Aug 24: September 15 is celebrated every year in the country since 1967 as “Engineers’ Day” to commemorate the birthday of the legendary engineer Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. Sir Visvesvaraya, an eminent Indian engineer and statesman was born in a remote village of Karnataka, the State that is incidentally now the Hi-tech State of the country. Due to his outstanding contribution to the society, Government of India conferred “Bharat Ratna” on this legend in the year 1955.
This year the 50th Engineers’ Day will be celebrated all over the country and the Council of the Institution has selected the theme as “Role of Engineers in a Developing India” to mark the occasion. Please find attached the theme and write-up on the Engineers’ Day.
As in earlier years, this year also the A & N State Centre of The Institution of Engineers (India) will be celebrating 50th Engineers’ Day on 15th September, 2017 in a befitting manner with a Technical Session in the Forenoon and a Cultural Evening for Engineers and their family , the details of which will be informed in due course.
Dr. E. Sreedharan, an Engineer by profession, popularly known as Metroman and an Honorary Life Fellow of The Institution of Engineers (India) has kindly accepted our invitation to be amongst us on this Day.
As in earlier years The A & N State Centre, Port Blair of the Institution of Engineers (India) invites the Engineering Fraternity working in various Central & UT Govt. Departments, MES, Defence departments of Govt. of India, Engineering College, Polytechnic & Technical Institutes, Public Sector Organisations, Private Organisations, Engineer Entrepreneurs etc. in the A & N Islands to prepare and submit PPT presentations of 10 minutes duration on the Theme of the Engineers’ Day to the Office of A & N State Centre of The Institution of Engineers (India). The last date for submission of PPT presentation is Monday, 4th Sept. 2017. The selected presentations will have to be presented in the forenoon Technical Session on Engineers’ Day.
The Engineering Fraternity (both graduate & diploma engineers) are also requested to register themselves at the Office of A & N State Centre of The Institution of Engineers (India) positively by Monday, 11th Sept. 2017 for participation in Engineers’ Day events.
