Port Blair, Aug 24: In order to create Road Safety awareness amongst the auto rickshaw drivers, on 18/08/2017 a traffic awareness lecture was delivered at PS Aberdeen Conference Hall by Shri. Mohd. Umar, Dy. SP (Traffic), Insp. HL Tiwari and Insp. Arjun Prasad of Traffic Branch. They were educated about the traffic rules and regulations, as well as familiarized with the traffic signals and road signages. They were educated about the traffic rules and regulations, as well as familiarized with the traffic signals and road signages. Besides, a small meeting was also organized with the auto rickshaw drivers to put forth their grievances/problems in which they stated that there is no separate parking place for the auto rickshaws in the municipal area. Due to this the traffic personnel are challaning for obstructive parking regularly. In this connection they also approached PBMC and APWD, but their reply is awaited. They were assured that the above matter will be looked into. The auto drivers have been advised. not to indulge in drunken driving, not to park the auto rickshaws near the bus sheds which causes traffic congestion. not to violate the route permit. not to misbehave with the passengers. operate fare meters while carrying passengers. strictly follows the traffic rules and regulations.Moreover, on 19/08/2017 Insp. Shanti Arjun and SI Abhishek Menon of Traffic Branch delivered a lecture at Girls. Sr. Sec. School on the road safety. More than 70 students including teachers attended the lecture and they were briefed about the Road Safety and Traffic Rules and Regulations.Meanwhile, In view of increasing complaints of rash & drunken driving in Municipal areas from general public, Traffic Branch conducted special drive between 19/08/2017 & 20/08/2017 by placing barricades on various traffic junctions. During the drive, around 2000 vehicles were checked by the teams of traffic police personnel and 452 vehicles were found in violation of various rules and sections of Motor Vehicle Act & Rule and they were challaned.Moreover, during the special drive, 36 drivers/riders were booked for drunken driving under the relevant sections of MV Act, 1988. Such drive will be conducted regularly.The Traffic Police once again cautions the vehicle users to obey the traffic rules and regulations and the traffic signals and signs displayed at various junctions and places. Action would be taken against violation of traffic rules as per law.
