Port Blair, Aug 20: Living on the Edge (LOTE) an NGO based in Andaman and Nicobar Islands has placed demand in Administration to bring law to reserve local jobs for local youths of these Islands.
In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Abhay Kumar, President of LOTE, mentioned about the vacancy notice published by the recruitment & examination cell of Secretariat, Andaman & Nicobar administration which appeared in the Daily Telegram on 12th August 2017 and said that some points in the said vacancy notice vacancy for 27 different posts from the eight departments through self-marking scheme, makes the entire recruitment procedure a questionable procedure.
In his letter Mr. Abhay said that as there is no specific law presently exist in Andaman which debar non-domicile of A & N to apply for the government posts like in other states of India like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka etc. These states are bigger as compared to A & N islands but still they have the criteria wherein only local domicile can apply in government posts.
“So, its high time that these islands too must have its domicile policy for the recruitment in government posts. And accordingly the rules must be framed wherein locals of these islands must only can apply for government posts and then such recruitment must be done. And if administration strongly believe to bring any such rule it can within short note as they have previously done in case of Tobacco ban , Quarry etc.,” the LOTE president added.
Regarding self marking scheme, Mr. Abhay Kumar said that this self marking scheme is highly inappropriate.
“For example, all the State educational board which conducts X & XII exams cannot be placed at par with CBSE. As in A & N Is only CBSE board is followed which is of very high standard, but candidates from other boards will be equally eligible as per present – self marking scheme. The students who have passed their X & XII exams 10-15 years earlier had totally different scenario in respect of educational environment and facilities with the students who have recently cleared X & XII exams.
So the candidates who have recently passed the X & XII exams will always have the upper hand as pass percentage is much higher now. So, we can’t justify the self marking scheme,” he added.
He added that although this self marking scheme must be incorporated in a broader way wherein 50% from self marking scheme and 50% from the examination to be conducted for the purpose/post.
