
Port Blair, Aug.17: A news channel, News 1 India 24X7 Hindi National News Channel has been launched in the Islands today. At a launching function held at Hotel Megapode Resort here today, the Chief Secretary, Mr. Anindo Majumdar inaugurated the channel as the chief guest, in the presence of the Chairman, News 1 India Channel, Mr. A S Rawat.Port Blair, Aug.17: A news channel, News 1 India 24X7 Hindi National News Channel has been launched in the Islands today. Launching the channel, the Chief Secretary stressed the need for giving vide publicity to the unique features of these Islands, to enable more and more people of the country and the world gain knowledge about the Islands, its significance in the freedom struggle, diverse socio-culture, bio-diversity, the beauty of the Islands and the development activities that are taking place here. Such publicity will draw more tourists to visit the Islands, he said. News 1 India channel can play vital role in this regard, he said welcoming the launch of the channel.
The Islands, the chief guest said, have the immense tourism potential, with beautiful beaches, green forest, historical places such as Cellular Jail, Viper Island, Ross Islands and places of tourist interest like Havelock, Neil Island etc. which need to be made known to the people in the mainland, he said. Local media are doing their best in giving such publicity, but national channels like News 1 India will be of great help, he said expressing hope the Channel will benefit the Islanders to certain extend. He also assured all possible cooperation from the Administration.
In his welcome address, the Chairman, News 1 India Channel, Mr. A S Rawat showered words of praises on the beauty of these Islands. He said though these beautiful Islands have already found place in the world map, much more publicity needs to be made so that the number of tourists visiting the Islands will double in the coming years and News 1 India Channel will work towards this end, he said and urged the people and the Administration to extend full cooperation with the Channel in this direction.
The function was attended among others, by the Adhyaksh Zilla Parishad, Mr. Jaydeep Kumar Dey, Chairperson PBMC, Mr. B Eswar Rao and the Secretary (Ind.), Smt. Rashmi Singh.
